History of V LO in Poznan
On December the 1st 1929 from Dabrowka University, which had its building on Mlynska street 10, emerged a new humanistic school with obligatory foreign languages: French, English and optional German. Its administration was connected with the parent school, but it was independent in the matter of education and child-rearing.
In the year 1936 The Ministry of Religion and Public Illumination took the decision about transforming Dabrowka University into National Female Grand School. The school has been named after Klaudyna Potocka - she was chosen by teachers and students as school's founder. The celebration of that event took place in St. Martin's Church. Building on Mlynska street 11 became the seat of new school.
When in 1939 the Second World War started the first day of school didn't take place that year. Girl scouts from 1st Emilia Plater troop and 'Klaudynki' performed voluntary service till the seizing of school building by Germans.
Only after 6 years of break caused by the Second World War, on February the 5th 1945 grand school and high school restarted their activities in building on Przemyslowa street. School began education of females who were accepted in the result of an entrance exam.
At first high school had only 9 not fully equipped classrooms. With time new laboratories were established. Despite difficult postwar conditions in Poland, youths wanted to learn. In 1945 school had 318 female students. Incredible as it may seen is, in 1965 their number increased to 702 students. In that period school gained statute of National Education High School nr 5.
On 7 September 1965, the school moved from old building near Przemyslowa Street 46 to a new one Zmartwychwstańców 10 (where it stands until today). In the new building school had 16 school classes and nine laboratories, community center, library, reading room and gymnasium. Ceremonial opening was on 6 November 1965. During celebration, the board of education school gave a new patron. Her name was Maria Kosztuska aka Wera Kostrzewska. She was a communist activist. On 1966, the school got a new language laboratory and a few classrooms: history, physics and geography. Also in 1966 school it got brand new geography garden and in 1970 new conservatory. 1970 also the year when a special room where the history of school was presented was established. The place possessed documents certifying its contribution to the establishment of contemporary Poland.
In 1967 first male student out fended to school.
1974 a new playground opened. The playground was built mostly by students and their parents.
On 13th December 1981 martial law was announced in PRL. School was closed until the new year.
On 28th October 1989 the school board and the teachers who belong to NSZZ "Solidarność" announced that the school would come back to old patron Klaudyna Potocka.
Now the principal is master of science Barbara Płotkowiak.
